1st Emsworth Gryffen Explorer Scouts make up the fourth part of the Scout family, they are made up of young people aged between 14 and 18 and we have a mix of boys and girls.
The Explorers meet regularly on Fridays from 7pm until 9pm. While we sometimes do activities in the Scout hut we also have a range of activities away from the HQ and this combination is what makes our unit fun and exciting. As Explorer Scouts we are linked to the Havant district and this creates more opportunities for interacting with other Explorer units in our area.
The types of weekly activities we do include climbing, canoeing, treasure hunts, night hikes and even a winter Olympics! We also have regular trips away walking, mountaineering and scrambling, in last year we have visited the Brecon Beacons, Dartmoor, Snowdonia and the Peak District. At least once a term we try to visit Emsworth’s own campsite in Harting on the South Downs.
These activities will develop a wide range of skills and many will contribute towards the achievement of awards including the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards and the Chief and Queen Scout Awards.
